The Republic of Djibouti is a small country in the Horn of Africa with a population of about 1.1 million. The first case of malaria was reported in 1901 and Djibouti remains a malaria endemic country. The fight against this disease is a public health issue in Djibouti, with case incidence and mortality rates increasing by more than 63% (World Malaria Report 2024 WHO). Local businesses can help prevent malaria from spreading.
That is why Djibouti Palace Kempinski is raising funds to purchase mosquito nets to protect families in underprivileged neighbourhoods. M. Nicolas Froger, General Manager, and his entire management team personally distributed 400 nets to the students of the Balbala Bilingual and Technological School. It is vital that young children receive health education as early as possible, as accurate information and a good understanding of malaria will enable them to protect themselves and their families.
Kempinski hotels in China are joining forces to actively support the charitable activities of the Sino-Ocean Foundation. The health and education of underprivileged children are at the heart of the Foundation's community-based activities, which include targeted poverty alleviation and education for children in various regions of the country. Education includes art painting which represents a significant budget. To raise additional funds for art supplies, the Grand Kempinski Shanghai hosted an auction on June 27, 2024. Three paintings created by children supported by the Foundation were sold, raising RMB 3,500 (EURO 463). These funds were used to purchase much-needed art materials for the children.
Throughout the year 2023, Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok and Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok’s BE Health programme raised up to one million Thai Baht (EUR 25,777) for the Autistic Thai Foundation to build an Autism Learning Centre. On 12 December 2023, the two hotel teams led by Mr. Manish Nambiar, Managing Director of Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok and Vice President Operations, South East Asia and Mr. Christian Ruge, General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Sindhorn.
Children and young adults with autism require special support in order to be fully integrated into society. Both hotels join the efforts of the Autistic Thai Foundation to provide these children with specific tools to improve their physical abilities, brain function and social skills. Kempinski Hotel Siam and Kempinski Hotel Sindhorn are raising funds by collecting “one Euro per night per room” and organising special fundraising events.
A committed team at Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz Malta volunteered to join the back-to-school preparation activities of the Inspire Foundation. The 5th of September rings the bell of the International Day of Charity and the facilities were in need of tidying up and recycling materials.
By raising funds since more than a year, the hotel actively supports the local foundation which works towards supporting and integrating children and adults with disabilities, in particular those on the autism spectrum and those having profound multiple learning difficulties. The hotel team believes in creating meaningful change for those who face challenging situations and the team lives up to it.
Nong is hard to miss at the reception of Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok. The cuddly toy is a true Thai elephant toy and has become the friendly face of Sindhorn’s BE Health project. Dressed in a grey and yellow polo T-shirt, Nong valiantly supports the Autistic Thai Foundation and can be bought for THB 499 at Sindhorn’s reception counter as of September 2023. All proceeds from this BE Health fundraising initiative will go to the Autistic Thai Foundation, which will use the money to improve and enhance the lives of autistic children and their families.
Everyone can make a difference to another. The hotel team from Kempinski Hotel Tel Aviv proved it. Suffering from a critical illness, Alma spends most of her time in bed and had daydreamed for months of all the ways she could restyle her bedroom. She needed a fresh skyline, and maybe to uncover a new life perspective too. Make-A-Wish Israel was made aware of her wish and decided to answer her longing. They fixed a date for the makeover, but Alma had to be safe and comfortable during that time.
Kempinski Hotel Tel Aviv didn’t hesitate for a second to help and invited her and her family to the hotel for a hearty breakfast and a good rest afterwards in a comfortable guest room. Yuval Pomerantz (Director of HR, left) and Guy Klaiman (General Manager, right) personally made sure that Alma felt happy. On her return at home, she found her familiar space had been transformed beyond her dreams, ready to surround a new chapter of her life. Whoever saves a soul saves an entire world.
